People think it’s acceptable to eat any animal that isn’t normally kept as a pet. People think that animals that are kept as pets (dogs & cats) are the only ones that have feelings and should be treated well and not eaten.
When anyone talks about cultures that kill dogs and eat them, people think it’s fucked up because we have them as pets. How could you do that to a dog.
So if it was mainstream for everyone to have a pet pig, would you still eat pork and bacon? Or would you think it’s fucked up because pigs are pets?
You need to realise that pigs have feelings too, just like dogs. All animals can feel.
Everyone here has grown up to be accustomed to eating cows, pigs, chickens etc and to believe that it is normal.
Just because it’s “normal” to do doesn’t mean it’s right to do.
It’s normal for kids to get bullied at school. Does that mean its right?
It’s normal for people to speed in their cars. Does that mean it’s right?
It’s normal for people to lie. Does that mean it’s right?
Just because the majority of people do it, does that make it okay?
You need to think about all these things for yourself. Decide for yourself wether you think it’s right or wrong to take calves off their mothers so you can have their milk?
Do you think it’s right or wrong to cut off chickens beaks and house them in really small cages?
Do you think it’s right or wrong to kill male chicks simply because they can’t lay eggs?
Do you think it’s right or wrong to slit the throat of a chicken in “humane” way?
Do you think it’s right or wrong to suffocate a pig to death in carbon dioxide gas?
Don’t let the majority of society decide for you what’s right or wrong.
Educate yourself about these issues so you can make an informed decision yourself.
Make the connection.
